Where to meet up in New York City

In New York, the trip decides the plan more than the venue does. A group spread across Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and New Jersey can each face a different subway line, a transfer or a PATH train. So the most convenient spot is usually one on top of a big station, where several lines stop.
These pages cover four Manhattan areas where many lines come together:
- Midtown has Times Sq-42 St, Grand Central and Herald Square. Between them, they serve 18 subway lines on weekdays, plus the 42 St Shuttle.
- Lower Manhattan has Fulton St and the World Trade Center, with PATH trains to New Jersey and the ferry to Staten Island.
- Union Square has eight lines in one station at 14th Street, where Greenwich Village, the East Village, Chelsea and the Flatiron District meet.
- Upper West Side is mostly homes, with the 1, 2 and 3 under Broadway and the B and C under Central Park West.
Outside Manhattan, Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr in Brooklyn has the 2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, N, Q and R. Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av in Queens has the 7, E, F, M and R.
Getting around
The subway runs all night, but not every line does. Late at night some lines stop and others change route. The MTA's late-night subway map shows what runs from about 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- The B and W run on weekdays only. The Z runs only at weekday rush hours.
- The C runs from about 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., as its MTA timetable says.
- The 42 St Shuttle between Times Sq and Grand Central stops from about midnight to 6 a.m. (MTA timetable).
- Track work changes service on some weekends. Look up every line in your plan on the MTA's planned service changes page before you send it.
Trains and ferries from outside the subway:
- PATH trains from Newark, Jersey City and Hoboken stop at World Trade Center. Trains from Jersey City and Hoboken also run uptown to 33 St, with stops at Christopher St, 9 St, 14 St and 23 St.
- Late at night, PATH runs only from Newark to World Trade Center and from Journal Square to 33 St by way of Hoboken. The 9 St and 23 St stations close from midnight to 5 a.m., as the PATH schedules say.
- LIRR trains stop at Penn Station and Grand Central. Metro-North trains stop at Grand Central, and NJ Transit trains at Penn Station.
- The Staten Island Ferry is free and runs 24 hours a day between St George and Whitehall Street in Lower Manhattan.
