The Upper West Side runs from 59th Street to 110th Street, between Central Park and the Hudson River. It is mostly homes, so it suits plans close to where people live, like a weekend brunch, a family dinner or a walk in Central Park or Riverside Park. Friends on the Upper East Side can come across the park by crosstown bus.

The subway runs under two streets here. The 1, 2 and 3 run under Broadway on the west side, and the B and C run under Central Park West on the east side. Pick a spot near the line most of the group rides.

Places that work as a meeting point:

  • Lincoln Center, at the 66 St-Lincoln Center station
  • the old 72 St station entrance building on Broadway, between 71st and 72nd Streets
  • the American Museum of Natural History, at the 81 St-Museum of Natural History station on Central Park West
  • Columbus Circle, at the southern edge of the neighborhood

Getting around

  • On Broadway, the 1 stops at 66 St-Lincoln Center, 72 St, 79 St, 86 St, 96 St, 103 St and Cathedral Pkwy (110 St). The 2 and 3 stop only at 72 St and 96 St.
  • On Central Park West, the B and C stop at 72 St, 81 St-Museum of Natural History, 86 St, 96 St, 103 St and Cathedral Pkwy (110 St).
  • 59 St-Columbus Circle has the 1, A, B, C and D.
  • Crosstown buses cross Central Park to the Upper East Side. They include the M66, M72, M79-SBS, M86-SBS, M96 and M106. Their timetables are on the MTA's schedules page.

Some of these trains change at night and on weekends:

  • The B runs on weekdays only, so on weekends only the C stops on Central Park West.
  • Late at night the C doesn't run, and the A makes the Central Park West stops instead. The C timetable gives its hours as about 6 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Late at night the 2 runs local, so it also stops at 66 St, 79 St and 86 St on Broadway. North of 96 St, only the 1 stays on Broadway.
