Where to meet for a team meeting in Boston depends on the T lines your team rides, so choose the station before the room. Downtown, South Station, North Station and Back Bay each have a meeting room within a 5-minute walk of the T. Maybe half the team comes in by commuter rail, a few ride the Red Line from Cambridge, and nobody wants to spend the morning changing trains.

This post suggests six rooms and one bar for after, then covers which station to pick, how to book, and weekends. It is part of our guide to Boston.

Where to meet in Boston for a team meeting?

Book a room beside a station that most of the team can reach without a transfer. Every room below is near one, and SPIN is the stop for after.

Our picks in Boston

Chosen by the Where2Meet team. Photos, ratings and addresses load live from Google Maps.

  • Convene One Boston Place

Hold a full-day workshop or an all-hands at this event venue in One Boston Place, 201 Washington Street. It's open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed on weekends. State, on the Orange and Blue lines, is about a 1-minute walk.

  • Workbar Downtown Boston

Riders on the Red, Orange and Blue lines can all reach this coworking space on School Street without changing trains. It's on the second floor, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and about a 4-minute walk from both Downtown Crossing and State.

  • Workbar Back Bay

Good for a team that works around Copley Square or rides the Green Line. This coworking space is on the sixth floor of 399 Boylston Street, open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and about a 1-minute walk from Arlington.

  • Loft on Two

Teammates on the Red Line, the Silver Line or a commuter train from the south can walk here from South Station in about 2 minutes. This event venue in One Financial Center opens at 8 a.m. on weekdays, the earliest of the three event venues here, and closes at 5 p.m.

  • The Exchange Conference Center

Plan a day away from the office at this conference center on the Fish Pier, 212 Northern Avenue in the Seaport. It's open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. World Trade Center, on the Silver Line, is the nearest stop, about a 10-minute walk.

  • societyM Meeting Rooms Boston North Station

Weekend and evening meetings fit here, because these meeting rooms at 70 Causeway Street are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. North Station, with the Orange Line, the Green Line's D and E branches and four commuter rail lines, is less than a minute's walk.

  • SPIN Boston

After the meeting, walk the team over to this ping-pong bar in Fort Point. It's moderately priced, good for groups and takes reservations. It opens at 4 p.m. Tuesday to Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday, and it's closed on Sundays and Mondays. South Station is about an 8-minute walk.

Which T station should the team meet near?

Pick the station on the lines most people already ride. For each candidate, count how many teammates would have to change trains, and choose the one with the fewest.

State and Downtown Crossing. State has the Orange and Blue lines, and Downtown Crossing has the Red and Orange. Park Street, for the Green Line, connects to Downtown Crossing underground. A room between them suits a team spread across Cambridge, Jamaica Plain and East Boston. See our downtown Boston page.

South Station and North Station. South Station has the Red Line, the Silver Line and commuter rail from the south and west. North Station has the Orange Line, the Green Line's D and E branches and the Lowell, Haverhill, Fitchburg and Newburyport/Rockport lines. When most of the team rides commuter rail, meet at the station their trains end at.

Back Bay. Arlington and Copley are on the Green Line. See our Back Bay page.

The Seaport. It has no subway. The SL1, SL2 and SL3 buses run from South Station to World Trade Center, so add the bus to everyone's trip. See our Seaport page.

Should you book a coworking room or an event venue?

Book a coworking room for a meeting of a few hours. Book an event venue when the team needs one large room for most of the day.

Workbar's meeting room page says anyone can book its rooms online, by the hour or by the day, with no membership. It lists rooms for groups of 2 to more than 25. For Convene, Loft on Two and The Exchange, contact each venue with your headcount and date for a quote.

What if the meeting is on a weekend or runs late?

Use societyM by North Station, the one room here open every day and into the evening. The coworking spaces and event venues on this list close at 5 p.m. on weekdays and stay closed on weekends.

If the team stays out after an evening session, the MBTA's subway guide says to reach a downtown transfer station by 12:35 a.m. Sunday to Thursday, or 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, to make the last connections. Commuter rail runs on its own timetable, so check the last train home on the MBTA's commuter rail schedules.

How to do it in Where2Meet

Start a Team meeting plan on Where2Meet and post the link in your team's chat. Each person adds the station they ride from, such as Alewife, Forest Hills or a commuter rail stop, and the plan shows their transit times to Workbar Downtown, Loft on Two and societyM. The team votes, and the organizer books the room with the most votes.
