A good date spot in Boston is a short walk from a T station on both of your lines. Downtown, Back Bay and the North End all have one within ten minutes, so pick the area first and the place second. Maybe one of you works in Cambridge, the other lives in Dorchester, and neither wants to change trains twice after dinner.

This post suggests eight places, from dinner to rooftop drinks to ping-pong, each within a 10-minute walk of a station. Then it covers booking, the last trains and planning it together. It is part of our guide to Boston.

Which date spot in Boston is easy for both of you to reach?

Start from the station where your two lines meet. Four downtown stations connect two lines each, and every pick below is near one of them or a station a single ride away.

Our picks in Boston

Chosen by the Where2Meet team. Photos, ratings and addresses load live from Google Maps.

  • Yvonne's

Pick this restaurant on Winter Place when one of you rides the Red Line and the other the Orange or Green. It's about a 2-minute walk from both Downtown Crossing and Park Street, takes reservations, and is expensive. It stays open until 1 a.m., or 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

  • Apex Rooftop Bar and Lounge

Save this rooftop bar on State Street for a drink before or after dinner, any night but Monday, when it's closed. It's moderately priced and takes reservations. Aquarium on the Blue Line and State on the Orange and Blue are each about a 4-minute walk away.

  • OFFSUIT

Book this cocktail bar in the Leather District when one of you arrives by commuter rail, since South Station is about a 5-minute walk away. It's moderately priced, open until 1 a.m., and closed on Sundays and Mondays.

  • Mamma Maria

For an early dinner in the North End, reserve at this Italian restaurant on North Square. It closes at 9:15 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9:30 p.m. Friday to Sunday. Haymarket, on the Orange Line and the Green Line's D and E branches, is about an 8-minute walk.

  • Lolita Back Bay

Lolita suits a date that might run late, because this Mexican restaurant on Dartmouth Street is open until 1 a.m. every night, and 2 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. It's moderately priced, takes reservations, and is about a 1-minute walk from Copley on the Green Line.

  • Contessa Boston

Make this rooftop Italian restaurant the splurge for an anniversary or a big night. It's very expensive, takes reservations, and serves dinner from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., or 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday. Arlington on the Green Line is about a 2-minute walk.

  • Wink and Nod

Plan on a 10-minute walk to this South End cocktail bar on Appleton Street, from Back Bay or Tufts Medical Center on the Orange Line, or from Arlington on the Green Line. It's expensive, takes reservations, and is open from 5 p.m. to midnight every day.

  • SPIN Boston

Choose this ping-pong bar in Fort Point for a date with something to do besides talk. It's moderately priced, takes reservations, and is closed on Sundays and Mondays. South Station is about an 8-minute walk away.

Google Maps

The hours, reservations, price levels and walk times on these cards come from Google Maps as of October 2026. Walk times start at each MBTA station.

Downtown Boston works when you ride different lines, because Park Street has the Red and Green lines and Downtown Crossing has the Red and Orange. Back Bay suits a date after work in the office towers along Boylston Street, with the Green Line under Boylston and the Orange Line at Back Bay station.

The North End is about an 8-minute walk from Haymarket, and its streets are narrow and winding. Say which corner you'll meet at, such as the Paul Revere House side of North Square.

Should you book ahead or walk in?

Book the dinner, and keep the drink flexible. Every place here takes reservations, so the question is which part of the night can't slip.

A dinner reservation fixes the start of the date. Mamma Maria and Contessa both close by 11 p.m. or earlier, so a late table there leaves little time. A bar works as the second stop. If the first drink goes well, you can stay. If not, the night ends early without a canceled booking.

SPIN lists 20 ping-pong tables and a full bar on its own page. Book a table there on Friday and Saturday nights, the only nights it stays open past 11 p.m.

How late can you stay out and still catch the T?

Plan to leave by about 12:30 a.m. Sunday to Thursday and 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Several of these places stay open later than the trains.

The MBTA's subway guide says to reach a downtown transfer station by 12:35 a.m. Sunday to Thursday, or 1:30 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, to make the last connections. The subway doesn't run all night.

Commuter rail runs on its own timetable. If one of you rides it home from South Station or Back Bay, check the last train on the MBTA schedules page before you choose between OFFSUIT, SPIN and a later bar.

How to do it in Where2Meet

Open a Date night plan on Where2Meet and send your date the link. One of you can add a Red Line stop and the other a commuter rail station, then compare your transit times to Yvonne's and OFFSUIT. After you both vote, the person who started the plan picks the place and books it.

Common questions

What is a good first date spot in Boston?

Choose a bar near a station on both of your lines, so either of you can leave after one drink. A rooftop bar near State or a cocktail bar near South Station keeps the trip home short.

Where should we meet if one of us lives in Cambridge?

Look at Downtown Crossing or Park Street. The Red Line runs there from Harvard and Kendall without a transfer, and the Orange and Green lines stop there too.

Is the North End good for a date night?

It is for an early dinner. Mamma Maria closes by 9:30 p.m. every night, so plan a later drink downtown, a short walk or one Orange Line stop away.
